What a breath of fresh air.
This YA roaring 20’s rural sea town romance was just as addictive as it was perfectly charming, romantic and with a great sense for familial relationships.
There was space for diversity, love from all walks of life, luxurious parties, beautiful scenery, the sea, oh the sea (I love it as much as our heroine), deceit and misunderstandings, obligations and secrets, supporting parents, amazing sisters, and romance of the kind that makes you curl your toes in need to see it fulfilled.
Lou is just the right amount of naive, strong willed and righteous, a girl with dreams, a girl wanting to discover life and live it, a girl who will meet the the broody owner of the house in the middle of the sea that she has stolen for herself while unoccupied, and will be swept away to live a Summer and a life she only ever read on the magazines and romance novels. Of course, she will be down for a lot of surprises, laughs and tears, as it was prone to happen.
Just lovely and what I needed when I picked it up this afternoon. Yep, this was a one sitting read, it was just the perfect amount of captivating and entertaining.
I can’t wait to read the author’s other YA romances.

Loved it. It was a light and fun read, and it still got me feeling excited for the ending.
I would've liked to see more of the queer characters or about mental health.

Never thought I’d find myself in love with historical fiction. After reading the first few chapters I already knew this book would get five stars from me. Laura Wood knew how to intrigue me with her prose fiction, and seasoning bits of beautiful quotes from The Great Gatsby—another one of my favourite reads.

I loveeeee the vibes this book has. From beginning to end, it fulfilled my nature, cottagecore desires and luxurious castle dreams. Lou’s love with the tide is so admirable. I also adored the relationship she has with her sister, Alice, and how lovely the Trevelyan family is. This reminded me so much of the Studio Ghibli movie When Marnie was There

The little touch of romance kept this book so exciting, love a good slow burn! Call it an enemies-to-lovers trope if you will. Also, Laurie was such a surprise at the end I literally screamed. Another win for the gays ;)

I would definitely sell my soul to read this book again for the first time.

I spent a long time waiting for a plot to materialize, but the characters were all so lovely that I didn't mind that the book felt slow. I really enjoyed this! It does have mild Great Gatsby vibes, and the writing is excellent.
