2.5 stars. I almost abandoned this one, but started liking some of the characters; but then it got very weird. It was okay but I won’t be reading any others in the series.

4.5 stars. I thought this was brilliant fun! This is a YA mystery story that brings together recognizable characters from many favorite classics. I did not have any idea going into the story what it was about, but quickly we were off to 221 B Baker St. after a murder. I’d know that address anywhere: Sherlock Holmes! With many nods to Mary Shelley, incorporation of Dr. Moreau and his creatures, Jekyll and Hyde, and a fly obsessed Renfield (who will end up in a straight jacket no matter what book he is in), this is a story for book lovers.
The cast of characters that is formed during book 1 are unique in their attributes. At first, I thought the book should have ended quickly after the climax, but then I realized I was the enjoying the womens’ company, and the set up for book 2.
One of the most unique aspects of the books is the interjection of the characters who are commenting on the story as it’s being written. Sometimes they criticize what the author is writing, sometimes they are flattered, but always their personalities shine through, and it’s entertaining to watch them reflecting on the adventure.

This was a hoot! I love the interruptions to the narrative, they were hilarious! Such a fun book!

Some great characters (Diana is awesome), there are two more books in the series so I will definitely be checking them out!
