Started a little slow/boring but I know that was the point to show to contrast the children made on his life and perspective. It was a really well done representation of “found family.” Got me teary at the end. They’re good kids.

A very enjoyable read. I'm not sure if I'd call it "cozy", exactly? But it's certainly heart-warming.
Minor: Child abuse, Xenophobia
This book deals extensively with the othering of "magical beings". While those are certainly fantastical peoples there's obvious correlation to real-world marginalized groups. There's some flashbacks depicting child abuse - and while they obviously make it out OK since they're flashbacks, it's still hard to read. I think this story is a little too harsh to call it a "cozy" read, in my opinion... But it's definitely in that neighborhood.

This book was so wholesome and absolutely heartwarming. The children in the story were so sweet, and I loved the message of the book. Definitely a new favourite of mine. I could read another book just on the day to day life of that house🥹 I listened to all 12 hours of the audiobook in about 2 days, it was just so lovely.
edit: I just found out there’s a second book and I’m so excited to read it!!
