This book was somehow both lighthearted and thoroughly emotional. The balance was beautiful, the characters were captivating, the pace was just right, the themes were brilliant and well executed. This book did everything it set out to do and I would call it near perfect.

what is there to say that hasn't been already said....... this book is lovely. such a sweet, comfortable read.
klune has given linus such a distinct narrative voice. if klune wrote a cook book in linus' voice, then i would be able to tell it was linus. the narration is just so fun, balanced perfectly between linus' internal monologue and his observations. i also liked how linus was kinda an unreliable narrator.arthur straight up confesses his love for him every other line & linus is just like "ah yes mr parnassus the master of marsyas orphanage AND NOTHING MORE" it's funny, and helps the romance flow well.
the romantic pacing oh my God.... i just read this book for the 3rd time & i was STILL on the edge of my seat waiting for linus & arthur to kiss. but also the pacing of linus' time at the orphanage is also great! every scene felt logical, even if the logic wasn't revealed until later (which was often).
there were so many moments while reading this book that i just had to pull away, close my book slightly, and go...... ahhhhh <<<<<33333
the world building!! ahhh so good!! though the fantasy universe isn't too drastically different than ours, klune had clearly thought through every detail of this universe. from the "see something, say something!" ads to linus' little anecdotes about his career, everything feels perfectly placed. like, yeah, of COURSE this fantasy universe would work like this.
n e way i would recommend this book to anyone looking for a simple fantasy romance. this book has a fantasy premise that is playful yet sometimes unsettling, but it doesn't take the main focus of the book. instead, linus' growth does. his character development as well as his relationships w/ everyone on the island are the main players of the book. so if you're looking for a romance settled in a fun fantasy universe, this book is for you.

This book felt like the warmest hug… it’s the only way to describe it. I loved the way the world building creates a sense of escapism and how the author isn’t pushing an underlying meaning in your face but that it is carefully weaved into the story and dialogue in a way that creates the impact but doesn’t lessen the whimsical sense of family and home. I have read what the book around what the book is based on, but if you can separate fantastical art from reality then I think you will love this book too!
