TJ Klune said in an interview that this book is inspired by the Sixties Scoop, a large scale removal of indigenous children from their homes. As a white person Klune had no business telling someone else's story. I advise keeping that in mind if you choose to read this book.

This book was just perfect.
I don’t typically read much fantasy, but this was so wonderful. The characters were endearing, the story was well-written, and the ending was better than I could have hoped for.
The only downsides: some of the dialogue felt a little forced and the plot was a bit predictable.
Highly recommend.

I've only had Lucy, Talia, Theodore, Chauncey, Sal and Phee for a day and a half, but if anything happened to them I would kill everyone in this room and then myself

Charming characters and setting. The descriptive writing brings you in to the lovely island and small coastal town. The bureaucracy and DICOMY seemed more bumbling and laughable than an actual threat, which added to the cozy vibes.

House on the cerulean sea was so comforting. Even the tension points happened quickly, and it was nice to dive into a world that was fraught, but written in a way that felt safe. There is controversy around the book I heard about halfway through the book, and it didn't really change the way I felt about the story, but more so the author. Look into it and keep it in the back of your mind as you read!
Moderate: Child abuse, Confinement
Minor: Homophobia
