This book was cute and fun and sweet. It's not a book to analyze and have deep discussions about. It's just a light, fluffy read. That's what I wanted from this book, and it's what I got. I think the message was sweet but so oversimplified and watered down that it felt like it was barely saying anything at all, and that was really my main complaint. The characters are all one-dimentional - although also very sweet - and all made just to deliver this message, and the message felt weak. Still, very cute.
I'll also note that the audiobook made me feel a little like I was being talked down to. I don't know if it was the prose or the narration itself, which is why I specify the audiobook. It was very simple prose, and the tone just felt condescending. It was the kind of audiobook that I picked up as a kid and made me swear off audiobooks for the next 10 years. It does get better later in the book - or maybe I just got used to it - but something to be aware of.

Well. This is a damn fine book. I stayed up until 3am to read it all in one sitting because I wanted to know what happened, and I loved the characters so much. The mystery is a quiet one. The conflict is not the end of the world, but rather small tensions here and there between characters. Moments where we hope our protagonist will stand up and shine.
The relationship development in this book is fantastic. It is slow and measured and so, so sweet when little changes in the dynamic make themselves apparent.
This is the found family story that everyone needs. Just be ready to cry rather a lot. Sad tears and happy tears and oooh-that-hits-me-in-my-heart tears.
The only thing that kept this from being a 5-star book for me is the way that some of the characters would state the theme outright...and it happened more than once. It got to be a little on-the-nose. I understand why it was written that way, though, and this is still a solid "will be re-read" keeper for me.

I don't even have words. I was going into this book hoping that it would live up to the hype it has, and it really and truly did.
I loved this book.
The characters are the absolute best. I just want to hug the kids and Arthur and Zoe in so many parts of the book! I laughed out loud, teared up, and even felt angry with the characters. This book is so incredibly important and so well done. Highly recommend.
Now I just need to figure out what to do with myself now that I am done reading it...
