I absolutely loved the personalities in this story and the palpable familial love. Everyone was very charming and it was delightful and charming to follow their stories. My only complaint is that the actual core story of the book, about the rip-off Harry Potter ministry and the backstory at the end blah blah, was quite boring to me and took up far too much time in the book. I wish there had been a more original and more enticing foundation of logic/exposition for the story’s characters to work off of.

I really liked this book but, until the very end, the main character is very frequently described as fat in a demeaning/self-hating way (from his own POV), until the VERY end when the author very briefly mentions that maybe now he doesn’t mind his extra fat so much because now he has found love/confidence (basically). In the end, I guess that’s technically a win, but the whole narrative is extremely negative toward fat bodies for the entire book, literally for no reason at all. It didn’t need to be in the story at all.

It’s funny and extremely charming. I grew attached to all the kids. I loved all of the characters.

Oh my god. I can’t believe I put off reading this for so long! I absolutely loved it. I want to reread it now. I don’t give many books a 5 star rating but this literally couldn’t be anything less than 5 stars.
I absolutely adored the children and Linus and Arthur and Helen and Eve. Ugh I just love them all! I want more from these guys!
This was just a wonderful book to read and I enjoyed every single bit of it.
I am so excited now to read UNDER THE WHISPERING DOOR and to see what other fictional characters this author can make me fall in love with.

While reading I felt a lightness, like I was floating on a cloud. Just such a lovely wholesome read that made my heart feel full with contentment

With reflection I truly do not see any flaws in the book at this time, I absolutely loved it and can think of no criticisms I would throw at it, just a beautifully written story, I only wish I had more time with the cast of characters.
