DPL
The Boxer Rebellion told from the perspective of the Chinese. Requested book 2, Saints, for the other perspective.

A deceptively simple book full of challenging concepts. Beautifully written and drawn, the story of a conflict with no real winners.

Very interesting read. I felt they did a good job balancing historical facts and continuity with creating the plot and compelling characters. I enjoyed the art style. Only suggestion is at least know the basics of what is happening before you read the graphic novel.

I struggled with the hate and anger that the main character felt and the actions of the god that spurred him along. Very violent.

this books is critically acclaimed, and I can see why. That being said, it is too violent, and just not my type of read. I gave it a good shot just to keep myself up to date on different types of literature.

Wow, this was a difficult read. The violence and the hate was so hard to comprehend. I thought this was fantastic and heart breaking at the same time. The ending was a bit rushed and their were these bits of humor that I thought did not fit the story at all. If you are searching for a fun, light hearted read, this is not the book for you. The graphic novel aspect may make it seem like it's simple but it's actually a really complex read. I totally recommend it.

Excellent art and an interesting story with magical realism. I didn't know much about this time in Chinese history and I feel I now won't forget.
