love this series, always a great nostalgic read that is enjoyable for all ages. it’s wonderful reading about septimus’ adventures with his family and friends and how he navigates magyk. this was the last book of the series i read as a kid, as the others hadn’t been written yet. i am excited to read the others and see what septimus and the heaps do next
I love her writing style, but this one wasn't my favorite, to be honest. Her storyline is too similar to Harry Potter for my taste, and too straightforward. I do admire her writing, but she's definitely no J.K. Rowling.

I think the reason I didn't like this one as much as the others is because it seemed to me, that Septimus got a bit snotty and uncaring of others feelings at the end. It made me sad for Septimus, because I really like him normally.
Septimus is in the middle of continuing in Marcia's footsteps when a dissaproving, mean ghost enters their town by the name of Queen Ethreldra. Jenna is confronted by the Queen one day, when she is leaving her chambers. She tells Jenna that if she doesn't get Septimus to look into the GLASS inside the robe room, that she will reverse the spell on Septimus and he will die. Who is this Queen, and why does she wish for Septimus to look into the glass? Furtermore, what will happen to Septimus if he does so?
