It's been a while since I've read me some Grisham and I was pleasantly welcomed back with the Racketeer. I thought the story was pretty brilliant and loved the twists and turns, though to be honest - I did predict some plot endings early on, but there were still a few surprises in there that made it enjoyable. There was an odd break in this book where all the sudden it's like there is another book being read and I thought, "What the heck?" Just keep reading - I kept flipping back thinking, "Did I miss something?" but that wound up actually being a pretty cool part of the book. There is a definite agenda here criticizing the federal government - though I would've liked to hear even MORE detail there - the surface explanations of RICO were ok, but I would've liked a bit more.
I thought the writing, structure, and lay out was great; the plot, not so much. A little too far fetched for me.
The Racketerr reminds me a little bit of one of his old ones The Partner which is one of my favorite. keeps you guessing through the book. I recommend to all the John Grisham fan.
Note to self: Stick with classic Grisham. This can't even hold a candle to his earlier work.
Couldn't put it down. Was my first John Grisham book - loved the thrill, crime, mystery of it.
A little slow to develop. I was wondering when the story would start to hook me. It took a while but it was good.
