I have no idea what I expected from this book/novella. I believe I added it to my "tbr" list a long time ago because it was written by an Irish author I was not familiar with. I finally took it off my list (and tracked it down) because I needed a banned book and this fit the label. I will have to assume it was banned because it was not kind to nuns.....and the young girls had relationships with married (gasp) men.
This book was so dry.....and the main character's relationship with her "best friend" made me uncomfortable. I had a hard time having any empathy for the characters--- and I was not that invested in the story. I stayed to see why it was considered a "classic".
Read: move on, unless you want to read and explain why it should be read, because....yawn.
