For my first read, I'm giving this 3.5 stars.
Will I ever understand a Kathryn Davis novel the first time through? I don't care if the answer is "no", it's definitely worth rereading.

Gorgeous writing. Beautiful integration of the everyday world with the magical world. Exact understanding of the yearning and confusion of a young person.
