Good time. Decent prose. Some level of character development. Interesting if standard world building.

Green Rider is interesting and fun, it drags you forward and I will be reading more.

These days are quite difficult for me for many reasons, but Green Rider manages to give me a very needed ray of sunshine! 😌..so, here's my review of it! πŸ™ƒ ( yes, this is my first 5 ⭐ of the year!πŸ₯³)

General info : first book in a #youngadult epic fantasy series ; some would say classic fantasy πŸ‘€; with a female protagonist that's actually competent and equally aware of her knowledge and abilities 😌

CW: few descriptive scenes regarding body preparation ; violence, attempted rape πŸ˜…

#bookthoughts

I cannot believe I waited this long to read this book..I'm a dummy πŸ˜…

I'll start my commentary with what I believe is the most important : Karigan G'ladheon is the MC we all want!😀 she's capable, aware of her status, knowledge and powers, has very accurate thoughts in the moments you'd actually want your character to show some uniqueness AND she's evolving with the plot...what I want to say is...she FEELS REAL!!!🀌. This. Is.What.We.Need!!!😀

Ok...zooming out.
As I described above, this story is traditional in many ways: we follow a protagonist 's coming-of-age journey in a well-crafted world; we have a classic sword and sorcery aspect with horses!🐴 ; a battle between good and evil and a soft magic system ☺️.

All these makes for a great story for those enjoying these specific things...but also for others!

I highly recommend you check this out if you enjoy great writing and down to earth characters...in a complex plot!☺️..and yes! #magicalcompanions 🀭( bet you won't expect that aspect to be played as it is!πŸ™ƒ fair warning..it's not as big as one might think)

Characters: We spoke about our MC a little, but let me add to it...Karigan often times feels like she doesn't belong, like this task of hers is heavily delayed due to her own incompetence..and multiple times you'll see how she rationalizes this and why. Let me tell you...you'll agree with her, but still cheer her on! πŸ₯°

She's young and her emotions are worn on her sleeve πŸ₯Ή, she's insecure and kind-hearted, but firm and dependable when it counts. Although we have some inklings of romantic feelings...she's basically not interested.πŸ‘..after all, stuff needs to be done!😀

This level of detail isn't with everyone, but all of them are done well and distinctive for the reader to feel a type of way about them: we have from crazy old ladies who are absolutely adorable!( Miss Bunchberry and Miss Bayberry), to weapons ( highly trained guards for kings) like Jendara and Thorne, to mercenaries and militia, governors ( Mirwell is very interesting πŸ€”), to fathers and teachers ( Stevic and Sevano), to, finally magical people ( the forest guardian, the Grey One and the Eletian people πŸ‘€)

I separate the King's messengers, the Green Riders, due to their importance..and I want to say, they are our standard, and Karigan's mirror for comparison, while also having very distinct individuals through characterd like Captain Laren Mapstone, someone I cannot name due to plot reasons, Alton D'Yer, F'ryan Coblebay, etc.

In this book we have not only a journey to deliver a message, but views on monarchy, what it means to be a citizen, commentary on human encroachment on nature and disrespecting it, trade, the development of nation and what that entails, glory -what it is?, what is good leadership, old beliefs versus superstition...and I'm not exhausting the list.

In terms of actual plot...what I can say is : I wasn't expecting thatπŸ˜…..the author manage to pleasantry surprise me at every turn. With each mile of Karigan 's journey completed, we meet a different challenge with a new subtext, a new way to engage with the world and added complexity to what we already have.

Even though I new the good guys need to win, I'm very happy with all the decisions made here! πŸ˜™ I don't think there's any detail left to chance..this is very much a story planned in advance ☺️ and I love it!

Overall, I cannot wait to see what happens next πŸ‘€, how our characters interact with each other after this and in what terms😊..and yes...I want to see if Kanmohan Vane will take over the world 🫣 and if the wall will be repaired πŸ₯Ή...so many questions!πŸ˜ƒ

Hopefully these thoughts are useful πŸ™ƒ, especially if I managed to sway you to try this lovely story!πŸ˜‡

Enjoy

This book was hard to get through for some reason, though it was written and executed pretty well. Didn't like it enough to look for the rest of the books in the series though.
