I have a new author to add to my favorite fantasy series, up there with Patricia Kennealy, David Eddings, and Terry Brooks. Green Rider kept my interest from beginning to end, I am fascinated by the world Britain created and the characters that inhabit that world. My next stop after this review will be Amazon, I want my own copy of the series for my bookcase.

I was unprepared for how much I would enjoy this book! It was so nice to read something with a straightforward but engaging plot, loveable main characters, and solid adventures. It was a relief from the real world issues right now to have a story where good and bad were obvious, and good always triumphs, and you can overcome insurmountable challenges with determination and friendship. I can’t wait to continue with kerigan’s story!

I loved this. What a fun adventure. And we get a female lead… Yass queen. Now I have to open up a hold for the next one in the series. I did chuckle when I looked at the publishing time frame. First one came out in 2000. The next one, book 8, comes out in September. Lolololol
We love a solid female lead.
I love The Horse. I need horsey’s name
KERIGAN KILLED A MAN WITH A HEADBUTTTTT. I need to learn that 😈
Horseys name is CONDORRRR yisss
Omg Kerigan is still calling him Horse
“I wouldn’t be surprised if you made it to Sacor city on spunk alone.” Kerigan, you’re gonna catch these hands….
Cut off someone’s hands for dropping a saddle???!!??

The good news is they avoid the main character having to keep secrets from everyone for stupid made up reasons. In addition, the world itself is neat and fascinating. And the downside everything’s a little over described, and the author switches back-and-forth between people first names and last names, which makes it hard to follow for people like me with learning disabilities. There’s also a recurring pattern where the heroine ends up in a scary situation and something magical shows up and solve the problem for her and then the magical thing disappears or it gets broken or used up or something. Other than deciding to stick to it, the main character doesn’t have a lot of agency and his ping-pong around by magical surprising forces from fight to fight where she drops her sword or loses her magical power or whatever and then somehow pulls through in the end

Pure comfort read, with obvious nods to the authors in the genre (Tamora Pierce, Robin McKinley, Ursula Le Guin)
Graphic: Gore, War
Moderate: Blood, Murder, Injury/Injury detail, Classism
Minor: Death of parent
