Brooke Montgomery (Sugarland Creek, #1)
"I would give up the privilege of breathin’ if it meant takin’ an ounce of your pain away.”
When Noah's one night stand turns out to be her ex's dad and her new employee, she knows there's no way this is a good idea. But how can they deny what's building between them?
Tropes:
– Ex-boyfriend's dad
– Age gap
– Workplace romance
This was so good! I loved the tension between Noah and Fischer and he was such a mature, kind, loving man who wanted to take things slow and knew Noah deserved more than just a one night stand. I loved how their relationship started with all the spice and the flirting and how it became slow wooing and the honeymoon phase and then the angst when they were trying to navigate tricky waters but still could not stay away from one another. Everything about this was such a fun ride from the romance, the spice, the banter, and the bits of action as well.
The brothers' banter is MY FAVORITE. They are so funny and their dad's low tolerance for it is all the more funny. I just know Wilder's book is going to hit different, but until then I am so very excited for [b:Stay With Me|195725346|Stay With Me (Sugarland Creek, #2)|Brooke Montgomery|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1699394608l/195725346._SY75_.jpg|197605090], Tripp and Magnolia's story too! Loving Sugarland Creek so much and cannot wait for more!

Sigh...
Explain to me how the ex-boyfriend's DAD troupe was boring!? That's like the most chaotic age gap cowboy mess for romance plot and I was bored!?
Too much ranch stuff I didn't care about. Every issue that was interesting got solved in a page and a half. Too many side characters I had no idea who they all were. The book literally starts with the most traumatic horrible beginning and then that character is lusting after someone and it's like huh?!
And the trauma was actually insane for how horny the rest of the book was. It was like emotional whiplash. Either the characters are horny or they're sobbing at grave sights.
AND WHY DID SHE FORGIVE THE EX BOYFRIEND WHO LITERALLY PUSHED HER after a quick dinner!?!? Oh yeah hugs all around! Immediately trust him! Yay! WHAT!?
I despised the way everyone spoke. I get it, they have accents. But you don't have to write every single verb like "talkin' walkin' and f***in'" WAY too erotic. Warning - the physical copies have pictures in case you're a visual learner.
The romance department was really lacking for me. Like it was insta-lust. Nothing that made me feel like these two had any emotional connection other than spice. Earn your spice. This was not earned.
And the cliches cliches cliches. Gramma of course is the wise older matriarch who somehow miraculously knew everything. Protective older bothers. What was the deal with the barn sabotage I think I must've missed the backstory on why whoever Craig is hates the ranch while the characters were banging it out for the fifth time and I skimmed over it. After the literal visual... I just couldn't get behind, under, or over this book.
