I would say 4.5 I wish the main character had better body image
Didn't really care for it, but glad I listened to it. Made me chuckle a few times.
When a character is this loveable all the book's minor quibbles aren't even worth mentioning. Gabi has a true voice, sprinkled with Spanish and expletives and poetry, tempered by circumstance, hope, and ambition, and full of love for her imperfect friends and family.
Oh my gosh, outstanding, especially the second half.
Wasn't there some sort of question about best YA boyfriend last year? Because Martin is the best YA boyfriend of all time. All the others can give up and go home.

It has been a long long time since I have read a book and really fallen in love with it, but this book is absolutely amazing! I just finished and I want to read it again. Thank you Quintero for creating such a relatable character. Never have I found a character who expresses the struggle with her body so honestly and describes truly what it's like to think of yourself as "the fat girl," wanting to change your body, but also just loving good food, somedays hating yourself and somedays thinking you're absolutely beautiful the way you are and wanting to tell anyone who thinks otherwise to "go fuck themselves."
There is so much more I could say about this book, in regards to finding a balance with faith and learning to not be ashamed of your own opinions or views, but you need to just read it for yourself.
An absolute must read, I don't care who you are!

This book was absolutely amazing. If you want to read a book where the main character is funny, strong, and real, Gabi is your girl. While it seemed like every kind of after-school-special scenario happened to Gabi and her friends, it just makes it more relatable to a reader of any background. I loved it! I want more books like this in my library to share with everyone.
