I love Gabi. So. Much. She's fantastic. I want to be BFFs with her and Willowdean from [b:Dumplin'|18304322|Dumplin'|Julie Murphy|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1424189465s/18304322.jpg|25795642]. This book deals with so much heavy shit, without coming off as an Issues Book or preachy. Gabi's diary is funny and heartbreaking, and maybe if you've had a family member deal with a drug addiction get ready to cry your eyes out.

The narration on this audiobook was fantastic. Kyla Garcia really brings Gabi to life, and she does such a great job bringing all her emotions through her voice.

This book is the most beautiful and real depiction of a girl coming of age in the midst of personal tumult. Gabi is brave, fresh; I want to recommend this to every girl. My favorite book of the year--give it all the awards.

3.5! I loved Gabi so much but it read a little young for me despite some heavy topics.

Gabi is a real girl and it’s so beautiful

TW: Drug abuse, rape, homophobia, and machismo.

This book made my little Mexican heart so happy

This journal style coming of age story deals with some heavy topics with humor, grace, realism, and wit. The author creates an extremely relatable character in Gabi who navigates her senior year of high school. Drugs, teen pregnancy, rape, overdose, religious zeal, body image, consensual sex, parental fear, homophobia, and more circle around Gabi who narrates the lives of her friends, her family, and herself.

Kyla Garcia was an absolute GEM and to listen to. She and Katherine Kellegren will be my go to voice artists. I will listen to pretty much anything they read.
