emotional mysterious sad

This was a you should have followed your instincts and skipped this one read. Olivia falls from a bridge, is in a coma and only being kept alive to save the baby she is pregnant with. The dialogue was so cringy (especially all of the teenagers’), but the ridiculousness of the plot and ending put it over the edge for me.

The ending was a tear jerker.

I might have given this more stars if I was 14. Baffled by all the love for this predictable “thriller”

This was a very well put together book. I enjoyed the back and forth as to who could have done it mystery. This book had me in tears at the end. Would highly recommend.

About the only word of caution I would say is that Olivia’s mother Abi was getting on my nerves for a bit. She was so set on getting help with her daughter’s case that when help was offered here and there she would reject it...like well what is it that you want? I can only assume the writer was playing her as the role of grieving but seemed a little over kill at times.

Book Review - THE NIGHT OLIVIA FELL

Told in two different point of views - Olivia’s pre-accident and Abi post accident, the story is pieced together as we go back and forth. Abi is a fiercely loyal mom who has some elements of being a Loreli Gilmore type except she’s strict, serious and doesn’t have much of her own life😬. Olivia is a somewhat typical teen who wants to be more independent and trusted. I read this in two days because I was curious what was going to happen. At times far fetched with some convenient coincidences, the story did move along on and it wasn’t overly twisty. Sometimes I get annoyed when the author tries to continually misdirect and the plot twists are never ending. That wasn’t the case and I actually appreciated that. ⁣

I would definitely recommend this especially to someone looking for a good page turner.

Thank you to @netgalley @gallerybooks for the free copy in exchange for an honest review. The Night Olivia Fell is out February 5th! ⁣

This book might have been more enjoyable if I had read it. I listened to the audiobook bc it was available first. I don’t usually listen to fiction books on audio. It was hard for me to enjoy it as much with the voice acting. Possibly a personal preference. The story was a little repetitive to me too.

Ugh the author falls victim to the “I have no idea how teenagers talk”. The story was ok- predictable- but Olivia’s sections were almost unbearable to read.

This book is an emotional rollercoaster that hooks you from the start. With its gripping premise and dual timelines, it skillfully unravels the mystery surrounding Olivia’s fall. Abi’s determination to uncover the truth, despite the pain it causes, is both admirable and heart-wrenching. The alternating perspectives offer a profound look into the lives of both mother and daughter, making the story deeply personal and impactful.

Olivia’s chapters, filled with moments of love, risk, and self-discovery, are especially poignant as readers already know her tragic fate. Abi’s narrative, driven by a mother’s desperation and love, adds an emotional weight that’s hard to shake. The book keeps you guessing with its well-crafted suspects and motives, while also exploring complex themes like family relationships, trust, and identity.

The ending is unexpected yet fitting, leaving readers with a mix of emotions. The writing is beautiful, the characters are well-developed, and the story’s emotional depth makes it a memorable read. For anyone who enjoys a blend of mystery and emotional storytelling, this book is a must-read.
