okay so this book was not good. but do you know what is good? (and also by this author) BEHIND EVERY LIE you should totally

2.5~3 stars
I have to take off a whole star for the last few chapters of this book. Once the mystery is solved Christina seemed to forget how to write and kept harping on like this was a therapy book.

I went into this book expecting a suspenseful mystery. I can tell you, if you are looking for another “reconstructing Amelia” you won’t find it with this book, even though they say it is the same. The premise of this book is sold on the fact that it is basically like that book, but this just isn’t true. It isn’t a bad book, but the fact that it was sold to me (a staunch thriller/suspense lover) as a suspenseful mystery made me very perplexed with the actual story. It is a contemporary/slightly mysterious novel.
You can see the blurb, Olivia falls off a bridge and is brain dead. This is a priceless story line. Something worth expanding on, but I feel, and it might just be me, that the author fell short. I hated the protagonist “Abi”. I found her to be immature and unrelatable. While we went through a back and forth story line, we had to go along with a grown adult saying constantly she was ready to move on. The thing for me with this story is the fact that it would have been good,Olivia’s story was good, but I felt constantly bogged down by Abi (the mothers) story. In the end I didn’t care about Olivias story. I just wanted to book to end. I was constantly assaulted by Abi’s issues and her story. That I’m unsure why this was even a story about Olivia.

The Night Olivia Fell is filled with emotion, mostly of the heartbreaking kind, and it is an interesting read, but there are some lags in the story. There is a mystery, but I would consider this one more domestic drama than suspense as Abi deals with the shock of losing her daughter while also learning that she's going to be a grandmother. On top of that, she's rather closed off to most people and afraid of letting anyone in, so there's that to overcome too. On the mystery side of this one, the author does give us more than enough plausible suspects to keep us guessing, but most are a little too out there. In fact, it began to feel like almost everyone in Olivia's life had some reason to kill her - not all of them were logical reasons, but reasons just the same. The answer to who and even why was pretty clear early in the book, so the big reveal wasn't a big surprise for me. While this story is a little too predictable for my taste, the writing is good and the author shows talent. I'll be interested to see where she goes from here.

It was difficult to read parts of this book when I thought about how much I love my own children. I think classifying this book as a thriller is inaccurate, and it was pretty easy to guess the ending from the first few chapters. Despite that, I found myself eagerly turning pages because I enjoyed the alternating perspectives of Olivia and her mother.

Lots of red herrings, but a good story. The interactions between mother and daughter seem very real...and between teenage "friends" and how fragile those relationships can be.

Overall story kept me reading on hoping for a big twist, but felt like it was predictable.
