In this graphic novelization of the baby sisters club, we focus on Claudia and Janine, and their grandmother Mimi, who has a stroke, and so they have to work hard to help rehabilitate her.

This is the last of the ones illustrated by Raina. After this is it s Gale Galligan.

The story is about friendship and sibling rivalry.

I loved The Baby-Sitters Club as a kid, so I’ve been trying to reread some of the books now. My library only has the graphic novels, which I wasn’t sure about but ended up loving.

Claudia and Mean Janine is book four. It’s summer and the club has planned a day camp for neighborhood kids. When Claudia’s grandmother has a stroke, her family must come together to help Mimi. There’s underlying theme of sibling rivalry.

The end of this book had a section explaining how the author of the graphic novel adapts the original material and the process of getting the new novels to final production. It was interesting to see initial sketches and the final product.

I loved the sibling rivalry theme and how siblings feel jealousy or misunderstand each other. The ending was happy but also realistic with Claudia and Janine working on their relationship with each other and in their larger family unit.

Raina Telgemeier does a good job of staying true to the original work but also making the artwork interesting and the story flow.

As I’ve said before, I recommend these books for middle grade readers and their parents who want a dose of nostalgia.

I'm surprised by a few things: how well the BSC seems to translate to graphic novel form, as well as how easy it is to bring it up to date. It might get harder as the storylines get more complicated, but I think this handled Mimi's stroke very well, maybe even a little better than the actual book. It was also pretty swell to not have that entire second chapter explaining the entire history of the club to skip. Do you think AMM wrote those for every book, or did she just get to copy and paste it after, like, number 5?

I really do love diving into this quicker reads. I read the baby-sitters books so long ago. but i thought this book was very fun and heartwarming and it tackled some harder issues including grandparents getting older and also complicated sisters relationships and it was rather fun read. I always love the graphic style and also the focus on their summer business plan. It was a fun read, will try and tackle them more in the future.

Claudia is arguably the best one. But she’s a little self centered and Janine doesn’t deserve the bad silly vibes Claudia thrusts at her!

Another stellar adaptation of one of my favorite BSC books. Claudia's my favorite, so of course I loved it. I love all the BSC Graphix books and I hope they keep making more and more and more!
