I can't take any more head hopping and boring ass characters who i couldn't care less about. If the writing had stuck to less characters/perspectives, maybe i could've finished this. Not to mention our Sebastian guy, he's another story altogether

Michael Hjorth ja Hans Rosenfeldt on kirjutanud põneva krimiromaani "Mees, kes polnud mõrtsukas", mis on mul juba tükk aega riiulis lugemist oodanud. Isegi pildid said blogi jaoks juba mitu kuud tagasi tehtud, kuid vahepeal ei olnud mul teps mitte mõrvalugude tuju. Raamatu kaas juba vihjab sellele, et midagi eriti võigast on tulemas. Kuritöö oligi muidugi kole nagu nad ikka on, kuid romaani võlu peitus hoopiski omanäolistes tegelastes.

Västerås, Rootsi. Mitu päeva kadunud olnud kuueteistaastase Rogeri surnukeha leitakse soisest metsast.

Mees on antikangelane.

Autorite duo on pärit rootsist.

Psychologist and criminal profiler Sebastian Bergman has become detached from life since the loss of his wife and daughter. He has pushed his friends away and uses sex as an escape. Whilst he is in Vastavas on family business, he gets involved with the case of a murdered teenager. Sebastian seriously lacks social skills, and has a history with some members of the team, however his psychological insights prove invaluable to finding the killer.

This is an odd one to review for me. I find it difficult to review books where I have liked the story, but not liked any of the characters. That’s not to say that I don’t like the writing of the characters, that isn’t the case here, rather I actually don’t like who those people are. I realised at about a quarter of the way through that I didn’t like any of them, and those opinions didn’t really change as the book went on. I found them all to be very selfish, and most with a distorted view of reality. A lot of them seemed to blame everyone else (or the world in general) for their own shortcomings and problems.
The plot was good, I enjoyed the mystery of what happened to Roger, and I thought the authors’ kept things moving at a nice pace. It’s not a book that has you on the edge of your seat, or that moves at breakneck speed, but I felt that the slower pace helped to reflect that of the case as it was in the book. There was always enough happening to keep me interested, but it wasn’t a book that I felt I really couldn’t put down.
I enjoyed the last few chapters the most out of the book I think, from where things started to come together and we could begin to see who the killer was. I did like the fact that none of our main characters had a major epiphany and changed their ways as the book came to a close, I feel that can sometimes be a cliche. Much as I didn’t like Sebastian, it is a little refreshing to read about someone who is well aware of his flaws, and chooses not to care about them.

Ultimately I went with a 3* rating for this one. I found it difficult to be fully invested because I didn’t like the characters, so I didn’t care what happened to them. I liked the writing though, and I’m intrigued enough by Sebastian’s character that I will read the second book.

Bem estruturado, bem escrito. Adorei este primeiro livro e quero mais.
Aconselho sem reservas.
