I might have to give Karin Slaughter's books a rest for a while. I've read 4 in quickish succession, and they're starting to feel a bit samey.

In this book, 2 men go banana's in the Grant County police station. Because the police force are really unobservant I guess? That's the only reason this was allowed to happen? That or blindness. Those can be the only explanation for how they get away with what they do.

At the same time, we alternate this story with an older story about what happens when the Grant County police chief takes his ex-wife to his old home town (before they were married). The two stories are linked, but it takes a long time to get there, and when you do, you won't care.

All in all, t's not bad, but, not gripping either.

At first I wasn't sure if I would like this book. The description made me cringe. I did pick it up though since I am reading the series and reading along with a goodreads group I am in. I am glad I picked it up, it ended up being the best book so far imo. In the beginning the jumping around nearly pulled me out of the story, but it began to mesh well and gave me a feeling it was all connected somehow. This installment gave a more in depth picture of some characters and relationships. Though other books in the series so far have been good enough to keep me reading, this one makes me excited to jump into the next one.

I love Karin Slaughter but this one was hard for me to get into. The mix of past and present story lines was interesting but confusing for a little bit. I knew they’d intersect at some point but it took a while. The last 100 pages or so were really good though.

Not my favourite so far.  Didn’t like the dual timeline and it’s soured my like of Jeffrey.
