This concludes the arc of the Shan King Liras-ven Tzormezelok that was begun in the Crystal Crown. I think it wraps all that up quite nicely. The rough parts of the first entry have all been refined here and the conclusion, although a little sudden as in the first, is fitting.

I continue to like all the characters, who are drawn with very strong characteristics but nonetheless allowed a lot of human nuance.

The concept of the realm beneath (eponymous to the second book in the series) is an interesting one that's developed well here. If anything, it's introduced better here than at its actual introduction.

Honestly I have not a lot to say other than praise. It's a strong adventure, the world is fleshed out lovingly without ever feeling small and it's good to see the narrator-protagonist bounce back from his low point and embrace his role.
