It has been almost four years since I read the previous HH book, I had to refresh my memory a bit, I haven’t rated any of the rest back in the day so maybe I’ll take into consideration what I remember of the series in general..

What I like:
- immersive plots, always wanna keep reading
- Nesbo ties all the threads together, everything in the story serves a purpose, some to lead us away from the main case but they always get resolved (well, there was one thing I was sure had some meaning that we never got an answer to in this one..)
-multiple POVs - victims, suspects, colleagues - and they all matter!
- Harry as a character - he’s flawed but I relate so much to his attitude - he is what made me read all these books and pick up this one years later even tho I have thought to myself the series should have ended a few books ago
- the importance of music - Idk just a little nugget :)

What should decrease the quality but I guess I don’t really mind as much, I could get over it and still enjoy the book:
- the TROPES!
 - ok so for some reason all the women love Harry (but I kinda do as well so who am I to blame?),
 - the Harry-Ráchel relationship is quite in my opinion unrealistic, overly idealized, exhaustingly repetive
 - plot armor - the instances Harry survives sth he shouldn’t are really getting out of hand
 - convieniences ? Idk when an information is presented early on in the story, I know it’s gonna be important somehow and then it turns out very convienient in the end I don’t mind, you decide for yourself

Now what I find specifically problematic about Knife:
- character development - the previous books made it seem that Harry has grown, changed and then suddenly a 180 turn here, back to the old ways.. same old story, I don’t need that
- unexplained events in between books that don’t make much sense
- the reveal seemed like it just wanted to force shock, yes there were clues pointing at the motiv all throughout but it in no way made me conviced that the character would actually kill for this

I would say that character consistancy fell victim to the plot that maybe wouldn’t so bad if you took it out of context as a seperate case, seperate story, but it didn’t work in context of the whole series.. And it’s still a pageturner despite evething..
