At first, I adored this book. The atmosphere, the mystery, the rot, the fear. It all was a recipe for what should have been an amazing book. There were so many tangles and twists that should have made this book wonderful. But, the end ruined everything. The ending was beyond lazy and just so stupid compared to what it should have been. It was such an easy explanation. I was thinking this book would have been some sort of paranormal magical realism story. It should have been honestly. Instead, it was a dumb ending. A simple one, which did this book a massive disservice. Easily would have been a 5 star book, but unfortunately, it's a 3 star. The only reason it's that high is because I loved most of this book. But seriously, the ending RUINED it!!!

screaming bc this is a new favorite

this book, in my opinion, was suuuuper unique in the way that it’s written and story-wise. it was beneficial to go in completely blind, not even reading the dust jacket or any reviews/synopsis. at first i thought i wouldn’t like it based off the first chapters or so, but once the story kicked off it gripped me and i could notttt stop reading. it had a satisfying end and i just loved everything about it.

I didn't like it, then I started to like it, then I didn't like the ending. I also didn't like the audiobook readers, they were all distracting except the one who read the kids book excerpts. It h d potential, but I don't feel like it lived up to what it could've been.

Is this a five-star book? No. Is it kind of predictable? Yes. But it was eventful enough for me to finish it. A lot of people were going crazy about this book and I completely understand why. The whole isolated village setting was really and the characters are likable. Like I actually wanted to read about them. Which is rare for me. Although the ending plot twist felt unsatisfying? It was still really good though

I absolutely loved this book. Such a different type of mystery with hints of fantasy and dystopia. It drew me in right from the start and I dreaded every time I had to put the book down. I highly recommend!
