adventurous emotional lighthearted fast-paced

Sometimes I wish I could go to another world and escape the madness that is today. Loved the book, love how Juliet writes it all down

4.5 stars. This is another fabulous read from Marillier. There were a LOT of fantasy/fairy-tale elements featured in this book, that at times it felt overwhelming. The story was certainly complex, but not confusing, which was truly compelling.

Marillier has a great skill writing nature elements and fantasy into her stories, and I'm always riveted-I simultaneously need to find out what happens, and I don't want it to end, which makes for a frustrating paradox.

I'm absolutely looking forward to more in this duology, as well as more from Marillier. I recommend this to all fans of fantasy, Marillier, and nature-based stories. There is absolutely an element of vampires, to be expected due to the Transylvanian setting and the name of the home, Piscul Dracului, but I wouldn't recommend this as a vampire read-you'd be disappointed if that's why you pick up this book.

This sure is an enchanting story. Juliet Marillier definitely knows how to write, her prose is so beautiful.

I loved the relationship between the five sisters. But Tati and Jena on their own were sometimes annoying me to no end. I especially did not get Tati, how she basically gives up und lets herself go just because she lost her faith in love... bullshit. What kind of love is that? Tati annoyed me the most.
Jena, sometimes, was thick as hell, too. Paula was the only sensible one. Or so it seemed.

It took a while for the plot to hook me but once it did I could not stop reading.

I am very excited to see what the accompanying novel will have in store for me.

I do love the worlds that juliet marillier creates and this was no exception. A little younger than I'm used to from her.

My first re-read of the year - it's been 5+ years since I last read this!
