Incredible dense prose makes this a challenge, but one that rewards perseverance. Once you become comfortable with the flowing, twisting, seemingly endless sentences and give in to the creeping madness, Satantango becomes a dark, hilarious ride. The "twist" at the end could have fallen flat in the hands of a lesser writer, but somehow Krasznahorkai gets it pitch perfect. Looking forward to discovering more of his stuff.

(7'5/10). Lúgubre y áspera fábula inmisericorde acerca del tránsito del comunismo húngaro a a la falsa promesa capitalista. Existencialismo con olor a barro y tormenta, donde pululan las influencias de Beckett y Kafka.

No obstante, pese a la fama mayúscula de esta novela, y pese a que la experiencia de su lectura me ha resultado notable (y necesaria), considero que la gran joya -con diferencia- de este escritor húngaro es, sin lugar a dudas, "Y Seiobo descendió a la tierra...", una atinada -e inimitable fusión de filosofía, arte, neurosis y misticismo-. Por otro lado, "El barón Weckheim vuelve a casa" me parece muy cercano en estilo y regusto a "Tango satánico", aunque, por su incisiva mirada, esta última es más compacta, concisa e hiriente.
