Diavola is more family drama than traditional horror. It’s a slow-burn, character-driven story where the tension comes from flaws, grudges, and dysfunction rather than monsters or gore. The atmosphere is dark, tense, and mysterious, though at times I found the narrative confusing and the horror elements underdeveloped.

The characters are layered but not especially loveable, and the cast is fairly narrow, centered tightly on one family. Their flaws feel like the real source of horror. While the pacing dragged for me in places, the book succeeded in creating unease and left me reflective, even if not fully satisfied. A good pick for readers who enjoy psychological, family-centered stories with an unsettling edge.

This is a story about a dysfunctional family on their yearly family vacation. They rent a villa in Florence Italy. The setting is beautiful and you really feel like you are on vacation with the family. Their family ups and downs play out in the villa alongside some Italian ghosts. The characters are well plotted out and you really get to know all of them. The mystery of the haunted villa is the main plot and it’s really well done. It was a page turner for me. Highly recommend! 5/5 📚

Tense, slow-burn story where the real nightmare is Anna’s awful family. She constantly lets people walk all over her, which was mildly infuriating and gave me serious secondhand anxiety. But the creepy atmosphere and unsettling twists kept me interested. Not perfect, but a decent read overall.
