Wow! I am SO glad I went into this book blind…it made the reading experience more enjoyable! I just knew this book was about unlikable characters and a trip gone wrong…and that’s it! And the characters are very UNLIKABLE…This family was the worst!!! On the other hand, the nieces were not as bad since they were little kids who loved their aunt despite the family’s reservations! And…I actually liked the ending
I would have liked to find out what happens to the toxic family… Nicole and Justin obviously get divorced…a prediction: I think something happens to Benny in which he goes to his sister’s apartment to be comforted like when he was a kid and finds she is not there anymore…guess he will have to grow up like Anna…props to Waverly for standing up like her aunt against the toxic family…Also the Christopher ending: wow maybe the family killed him only to pin it on Anna if they were caught

DID NOT FINISH

Boring. But I did read past 50% bc I enjoyed how the theme of a dysfunctional family; estrangement and scapegoating were well done. I just want more horror.

Wow ! No one can hear you scream when you’re on a family vacation! I could not get over how horrible Anna‘s family was! Like I kept waiting for like her to do something that justified the way they treated her. I still couldn’t really find anything to put my finger on to. They thought justification because like even the times that she did mess up, she didn’t continue to do that again. So I was always confused at what happened to really make her family act that way other than everybody was jealous of her.

The cover of this book is absolutely beautiful and weirdly plays into the story. I do have to say that like the last 88% of the book is what I enjoyed the most. I definitely understand more what was happening and in a way this book gives off an A24 movie vibe . Where so much of the story comes together at the end and you spend the majority of the time being like what is the point of everything that I’ve read so far?

I remember at one point her family being so horrible that when she ran into an Uber driver when she was like walking that I was like whether or not he kidnapped you it might be better than going back home to your family!

Spoiler part
“ keep cursed and carry on “ had to be the funniest line to hear in the middle of everything. And at the time I was a little like OK what’s going on here but when I got to the end and realize that the girls picked the wrong person to mess with! Also, I was so frustrated that she saved her family for them to basically ignore her!!

UGH.

Diavola was a very frustrating read! >.< I really enjoyed the first half of the story, but the 2nd half of the book is a hot mes.

So the start of the books is enjoyable. We are introduced to a horrible family, that we all hope will be chost chow soon, and a creepy Italian villa.
