This is a horror book that is effective and spooky without taking itself too seriously, and I really appreciated that.

It’s that time of year for Anna to go on the family vacation. This year, Anna’s parents rented a villa in Monteparso, Italy. Everyone will be staying at the same house including: her mom and dad, her sister Nicole with husband and two daughters, and her brother Benny with his partner Christopher. It’s not long before some weird things happen with the house -doors slamming, someone pushed by the pool, and strange noises at night. However, most of it’s blamed on Anna, like she’s joking around. Anna knows she’s not doing these weird things and thinks the villa is haunted. The caretaker tells her to not go up to the tower, but of course they do. I found it frustrating how the family relies on Anna for her Italian speaking capabilities but then blames her for almost everything that goes wrong. They treat her as a rebellious teen, instead of the independent, employed woman she has become. I was really rooting for Anna to survive her family and the villa. I was quickly invested in this story and the pacing was great, especially the second half. I also really enjoyed the creepy atmosphere, which still came across with the audiobook.

Damn, her family hated her? For really no real reason.
