Diabetes and competition!

An honest and very healthy look at friendship, diabetes as well as competition. It shows the benefits of listening to children as they know what they like and it lets you be more supportive of them. It also shows that just because the teen is older or the name fancier that the care is better.

I really liked the growth and struggle of the characters making them far more real. Stacey is amazing for knowing what she can and can’t have but also what she wants with her condition! I hope the series continues to grow.

Stacey McGill has diabetes. she has to go to New York City for a lot of appointments. Her parents want her to go to a special doctor who they’ve seen on TV. But Stacey wants a second opinion. Meanwhile, the BSC has new competition, The Baby Sitters Agency. The Agency has older sitters who can stay out later, driving away some of the BSC’s clients. The girls have to come up with a clever way to save the BSC.

This story deals with the serious issue of Stacey’s diabetes. Though she was ashamed of it at first, the baby sitters accept her when they find out. They don’t think it’s a big deal, though Stacey was afraid they wouldn’t like her when they found out. Stacey also demonstrates her maturity and independence by taking her health into her own hands when she tells her parents she wants to see a different doctor from the one she picked out.

The babysitters have to be very creative when trying to save their club. They learn that the truth is the best policy, when they have to expose the secrets of the Baby Sitters Agency when a child is in danger.

This graphic novel is another great adaptation of the original Baby Sitters Club.

Genre: graphic novel
Summary: Stacey has diabetes but her friends don't understand it so she feels isolated and alone, but as she helps the baby-sitter's club overcome some job competition she learns how to handle her condition and find friends again.
Response: I read the baby-sitters club books when I was younger and I loved them. This is the same story in a different genre, a graphic novel which tells the story more in pictures than words. It was a very quick read but it did deal with a variety of teen issues like identity, fitting in, bullies and interacting with adults. It's hard when reading a book that is so heavily based on images, that the imagination is somewhat contained to those images, versus what the reader would like.

Cuteness and nostalgia overload! Stacey was always my favorite member of the BSC so it was nice to see a story from her perspective.

The art is so cute! I am really enjoying revisiting this series. I can’t wait to read more of these adorable graphic novels.
