I know that I'm going into this with a Diabetic's mindset, so bear with me.

The baby-sitting story is good. I think they deal with what it means to be a good baby sitter and they touch on responsibility and doing what's good. I liked that.

However, everything with Stacy and her being diabetic was cringe-worthy and a huge fail on an opportunity to educate. They make it seem like Stacy can NEVER eat sugar and that she will basically die if she does (which is completely untrue). Her parents are way too over-bearing and not in an understanding way, just a crazy way. I also am upset that they never take the time to mention Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. They kept saying "If you eat healthy and give insulin injections every day, you will be okay" and that is WAY too oversimplified. I realize this is a book for kids, but COME ON. I would have been terrified when I was 7 and found out I was diabetic then read this book.

I'm curious to read the original book to see if they do a better job of describing what Stacy is going through and if they just simplified it for the graphic novel.

I love BSC so much. Martin always teaches a lesson without making it seem too didactic, and Telgemeier's adaptations perfectly capture that style.

Follows the original book chapter by chapter, omitting a few extraneous details and changing a few of the characters around in certain situations. Feels updated while staying true to original story.

Still fun. Loved the different sections (notebook, flashbacks). Good for reading comprehension for the young'uns, nice for me. This cheered me up today!
