This may have been my least favorite in all the Thirty-Nine clues so far. This on is about manuscripts in Timbuktu. While all the books just graze the surface of information, this one really didn't have as much substance as other installments. We hardly learned anything about anything or anyone.

Fairly misleading cover. Very little of this book is about the diamond caper (a failure, as it turns out), and is more set in Timbuktu. I imagine the diamond was just a marketing ploy. It looks more interesting than the endless information Timbuktu holds. Ironic, considering a major message in the book is "please tell people about how much information Timbuktu has, no one ever comes here."

There's a bit too much focus on the Jake/Amy romance. In that there is one. And I'm not saying this as a shipper. I just feel like this sub-series is focusing WAY too much on the love triangle between Evan-Amy-Jake (with that still-maintained little interest from Ian, which is still kind of incestuously awkward). When we already have the conflict of all the kidnapped Cahill's and this dangerous Vesper group, adding in a love triangle feels frivolous.

If you're into the 39 clues, I'm sure you'll continue. It's still an okay series, and if you can find audiobooks, they're generally between 5 and 6 hours. Real quick to get through. I'll keep going, but man...the tropes are just laid out there, because I am 99% certain Evan is going to be Vesper One or his son.

For some odd reason, I didn't like this one as much as the rest. I think it was this new author's writing style. Anyways, It also came to light how much of a "slut" Amy is. First she gets a crush on a FAMILY member (distant but still true), then the Clue Hunt ends and gets a boyfriend! Woo, go Amy! And then doing the errands for Vesper One she gets a crush on some random dude who is a complete douche? AMY! Sweetie, What are you doing? Other than that this book was pretty good but I think I'm in need of a little break from Cahill World to read something else. Maybe a brand new book I got???

P.S. Happy Bisexual Pride Day!
