In this what if story, Luke does not destroy the Death Star and the events are narrated from that perspective. It explores what is potentially a much darker story where the characters could theoretically be consumed by the dark side out of frustration or hate. But it all happens very quickly, Luke goes to Dagobah with Han and Chewie but Yoda doesn't recognize the Wookiee (that seems disrespectful on the part of the writer), Leia is captured and becomes the living propaganda of the empire. the general story is entertaining to read but if you are going to do it, do it without any expectations. And because it's an alternate history, I don't mind saying that Yoda would never have committed that atrocity.

Star Wars Legends Project #290

Background: Star Wars Infinities: A New Hope, released in February 2002, collects the 4 issues originally published May-Nov 2001. All 4 issues were written by [a:Chris Warner|71161|Chris Warner|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] with art by [a:Drew Johnson|73350|Drew Johnson|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]. This is Warner's only Star Wars credit as a writer, though he has been involved in a few other things. Johnson drew for the X-Wing comic series.

Infinities: A New Hope begins with the Battle of Yavin and continues for about 5 years after, but it is not canon and therefore has no bearing on the timeline. The main characters are Luke, Han, Leia, and Darth Vader. The story takes place on various planets, but most prominently on Dagobah and Coruscant.

Summary: What if . . . Luke's one-in-a-million shot failed to destroy the Death Star? In the wake of this defeat, the Rebellion is decimated, it's leaders captured, and the remnants scattered to the corners of the galaxy. With no battles to fight, Luke focuses on continuing his Jedi training, while Leia falls under a ... darker influence.

Review: This is a fun idea, executed in a way that, while occasionally questionable, is never not entertaining. I particularly don't buy Leia's arc within the context of her character as she exists in canon, but it makes for a really strong dramatic core in this alternate Star Wars universe. And it still feels true to the spirit of Star Wars. It's so short that if I were to go into it too much more, I'd give it all away, so I'll leave it at that.

The Infinities series explores "what if"? And they are AWESOME. It's refreshing and freeing to read something with the main characters that's NOT within continuity.

This was absolutely amazing and I'm ashamed of myself for having left it so long to read. Despite being titled: A New Hope this does a very quick flash forward to the Death Star trench and the failed attack run. The remains of the tale is a reworking of the next to films but going down the other trouser leg of time. There were a lot of the familiar beats from the films, but all with a different feel and outcome to them. I would say the final showdown in this one surpasses the one on screen. So epic in scope and a really fun thought exercise.

This is a different look at the Star Wars universe; it is basically a series of "what ifs" from the three original movie stories. In this first volume, what would happen if Luke had failed to destroy the Death Star. It is an entertaining read, and it certainly looks at what would happen. You see familiar elements, yet you also get the changes based on that one pivotal event. This is a very easy read, and it may leave readers looking for more. Overall, it is one I recommend if you are looking for something different.

Look I'm sorry but the idea that Leia would ever be Vader/the Emperor's apprentice is total fucking bullshit. Not saying she'd never go to the Dark Side, just that she wouldn't do it under their guidance, especially after the destruction of Alderaan. Be a little realistic please.

More like a 2.5 as this seemed very slapdash and super rushed.
