Karen Kingsbury is one of my mother's favorite authors. And even though all her books are on the shelves here, I personally haven't really read one of them. I'm not much of a contemporary reader and therefore the books never really spoke to me. But, when my mom bought this Children's book in English, because it wouldn't be translated to Dutch, I decided it was a pity to let it go unread.

In every way possible this book is a Children's book. As an adult the conflict and problems in this book aren't that big, but the Baxter children really do remind me of me when I was a lot younger and the biggest problems in the world were the mean kids at school, feeling left out when others play games and carrying the burden of that one time I lied to my mom. The Baxters really have that typical childhood, with a loving family and loving parents.

And even though at first I thought it was just an amusing book, I realised by the end that the characters, even though I don't know their older versions yet, had grown on me. I felt for them and I felt with them and they found a cozy and nice place in my heart.

I can also totally imagine that for Children from about 8 or 9 years old this book is amazing. They will most likely really connect to the children. And due to the writing style and the not so long chapters, it's a perfect book to read to your children before they go to bed at night.

On the surface this seemed like the perfect book for my 7 year old to listen to. She loves books about families and the normal ups and downs of family life. I didn’t listen to it in it’s entirety but there’s a lot of God talk, which I should’ve figured out before hand. I don’t mind my kids being exposed to things like God and prayer in a family’s life but this did seem a bit preachy. There’s also some slightly more grown up problems (like 5th? grade girls being worried about not getting valentines from boys) that I felt were a bit idk, cliche and mature for my 2nd grader. All in all a fine book, but we probably won’t read sequels unless she specifically asks.

I was so excited for the release of this novel. Karen Kingsbury is one of my absolute favorite authors and her Baxter family has been my favorite for a long time now. This book is the start of books about her Baxter family characters as children. I've always wondered about the Baxter kids and what there life was like growing up, and with this book, we get just that and so much more!

This one focuses on Ashley Baxter. Ashley was one of my favorite characters in the Baxter series and her character as a child......let me tell you, she was full of mischief and I saw myself in her so much! The experiences of having to move and make new friends and adjust to life in a new way, was something that I could relate to, after my dad retired from the military and I had to leave my best friend. The faith, the hope, the love that the Baxter children had as young ones was inspiring, even for this adult!

Whether you have a child or grandchild, niece or nephew, who loves to read, this book is perfect for them! Every child, and adult needs to read this sweet book! I read it in one sitting. Mother and Son did a phenomenal job on this creation! If you're 8, or 98, this is a 5 star read that you will want on your shelf forever! Bravo and magnificently done, Mrs. Kingsbury and Mr. Russell. I can't wait to read the next one!
