I'm so glad I got to read this! Shelby's writing is so beautiful and hopeful and this book has so many words of wisdom. I also was lucky enough to get a copy Shelby wrote a bunch of notes in, and I *loved* getting to read her annotations with comments on the poems and the process of writing this book.

“i’d like to think the stars in the sky
need you more up there than I needed you
down here.
(i’ll think that even if it’s not true.
because you’re not here and I need you.)”

❤️ a thought-provoking collection, changing with the tides touches on so many different themes, making it a relatable read. shelby has crafted a wonderful collection, weaving in many different styles.

Poetry collections are hard to rate, but this was very enjoyable. I think "to mourning" was one of my favorites.

Split into two parts, 'Anchor' is about unhealthy relationships, insecurity, anxiety and loss and 'The Sail' is about healing, positivity and finding yourself again.

A few reviews said this poetry book felt like a hug and I agree. I love how it’s structured into two sections (the anchor and the sail) and how each entry starts with “to the one who___”, which could apply to the same person or different people each time. I did miss that extra punch that would transform these poems from relatable poems to poems that had me reaching for tissues. While it was a relaxing read, I wished it were more impactful.
