Tracy Deonn continues to hit it out of the park. with this second instalment in the Legendborn cycle.
New characters are introduced, expanding the universe and the magical lore.

5/5.
I went into this book thinking that I wasn't interested in learning anything more about Sel. To me, he was just someone who wanted to kill Bree and didn't care much about her. I was much more interested in the dynamic between her and Nick because he was just so sweet and kind.
However... Bloodmarked made me a Selywn Kane stan. 100%.
It's not a secret that I have a soft spot for broken men in the media I consume. As a lesbian, I'm not quite sure why that is. However, we learn more about him and why he is the way that he is. And how his story is intrinsically linked with Bree's.
This book was exciting. Almost every step of the way had me tapping my Kindle to get to the next page as fast as possible. Learning about all the new magic in this world, the world building delving even further... The absolute banger of a plot twists at the end? My jaw dropped. I hadn't guessed it. Hadn't even though it. Plot twists are my favorite. But a lot of the time, I find myself guessing them. This book hinted at it, but didn't make it obvious.
Also, one of the most important things of the book: the talks about racism. How Bree became a descendant of King Arthur is important. They don't shy away from the fact that it is absolutely because he owned slaves. Because he wasn't this amazing, can-do-no-wrong type of 'King'. He was like any other white man who wielded magic (within this story).
Something that makes this book stand out more than others that cover this topic (magic & King Arthur) is the fact that it was modern. There was something so interesting and exciting about having her walk through King Arthur's memories, and then being snapped back to modern times where Alice is saying something silly and snarky.
By the way, I love Alice. Other than Bree, I believe she is the unsung hero of this book. If anything happens to her in book three, I may riot.
TLDR; First book of the year and it was an absolute banger. Tracy Deonn is magical. Thank you for your words, the characters and this world you built.
