I really liked this world the author had created, but I definitely felt like situations were missing explanations.

For one, when they met their grandmother, what transpired her to start questioning Temra about magic? Had someone tipped her off about it? If so, who? - That whole situation was just glossed over.

If Ziva is so well known for her magically forged weapons, how come no one else has tried to force her and her sister to work for them?

I also feel like they took down the Warlord too easily. This is a women who is apparently infamous for her army and fighting skills. Whether or not Temra and Kellyn knew how to fight, they weren't wielding secreteater which is honestly the only way I saw the Warlord being overtaken.

As much as I want to love it, it definitely fell short. I had higher expectations for the action, the plot, and the relationships. I loved the groups interactions with each other and especially with Patrick, but the romantic aspect of the book, I thought, felt rushed.

Where do I start? Ziva is by far the most relatable character I have ever read. As someone who suffers with anxiety I think Ziva was captured perfectly in that sense. I loved that her sister Temra would always assist and come to her side whenever people would try to talk to Ziva or how she could tell when Ziva was anxious. I loved that about their dynamic and how important their bond was to each other truly made the book. The amount of support each sister gave to one another when it was time or needed truly was incredible to see.

Ziva in more detail- we see her grow as a character throughout the journey and how she speaks more about her anxiety to Kellyn.

“Maybe we can not like people together.” -Kellyn

Kellyn also has his character development throughout the book as well. That is my favorite quote he says in the book solely because I aspire someone to say that to me!

I have no complaints. Ziva is an interesting main character, and a good representation of what severe anxiety looks like. It's refreshing to see that represented in a main character rather than as a side note. I like Kellyn and am interested to see some more character reveal/growth for him.
Both him and Ziva are frustrating in how they interact, where they won't tell each other the truth and then argue about how one was more right than the other because of it. I really love Temra, she's a side character I would be interested in reading more about.
Temra and Ziva's relationship is a really good representation of sisters, where they get frustrated and say horrible things, only to apologize and reconcile. Obviously not super healthy communication, but I know a lot of siblings (my own included) who operate in similar ways.
Petrick was truly a surprise at the end and I'm really hoping we get to see more of his true self in the next book.
The writing was well done, portraying the frustrations and anxiety attacks really well, and not just making it like a token mental health illness. Ziva doesn't just magically get over it and nobody babies her because of it. I would like to see Ziva grow a little more in the next book, maybe step outside of her comfort zone to see how that affects her and her relationship with herself.
