A look into life in India, a baby elephant, and a cast of colorful characters. Not a bad start to a mystery series.

I wouldn't say this book made a huge impact on me, despite its interesting premise.

SYNOPSIS: A newly retired police officer tries to navigate his transition to retirement while also fascinated (and subsequently engulfed) by a mysterious new crime case - one that his successor seems inadequate to solve without his help. And also, he strangely inherits an elephant.

REVIEW: I enjoyed it for the most part, but found the overuse of clichés and stereotypes to be uninspiring. I guess it seemed a bit basic, predictable, and I hated how unnecessarily annoying his wife was with her nagging. The ending was fine, but not as good as I'd hoped for.

I do recommend this book to someone looking for an easy read; but, I personally don't plan on pursuing the series.
