So first off, Elephants are my favorite animal, and I would give all of my limbs to befriend one. Secondly, I read this book because on January 1st, 2020 I was going to get on a plane to Mumbai. This book happened to have both an elephant and take place in Mumbai.

I loved this story so much. It was just good fun interesting read with characters that are so delightful and interesting, and I love spending time with them.

I'm very excited to read the next ones in the series, especially now that I've returned from India, and might recognize some of the places talked about.

I love this story, and can't wait to hang out with Inspector Chopra once again.

4 stars.

A retired police inspector, his wife and a young elephant facing a murder in a colorful and sprawling Mumbai, in a book that is a thriller, yes, but colorful as the city that is its background, fresh and even humorously written.
Thank Redhook Books and Netgalley for giving me a free copy of this fun book in exchange for an honest review.

All the stars for the baby elephant!
The murder mystery part of the story was fine, but I really liked the parts with Ganesh.

i don’t care for the mystery or the characters and
how do you explain someone retiring from the police force because of a heart condition suddenly running around all of mumbai after some killers?

The concept of the book was interesting with a retired police officer and a magic baby elephant in Mumbai. However, the execution fell short with more telling than showing, ploy holes and editing errors. Most of the clues the police officer found was courtesy of randomly wandering by them. I also didn't like how he treated his wife fairly condescendingly.

3.75 stars. A delightful and quick listen.

Sweet little mystery. Exactly what I was expecting.
