I couldn’t stand this book. The dialogue feels like an adult trying to write how they think a teenager speaks. It felt so cringey and lame. I felt embarrassed to be reading it. Specifically the line when Rufus says he only posts black and white photos since his family died made me laugh out loud. It feels very CW, very Riverdale to me. Just one of the many examples of the disingenuous emotion for me. Nothing about this book felt real.

The idea is okay, and the representation is great, but the characters are annoying. I hated Mateo so much. He’s portrayed as this sweet, anxious guy, but he couldn’t be more of a selfish ass if he tried.

The shifting perspectives is gimmicky and doesn’t support the already flat main characters well. Maybe I’m the wrong audience, but I can’t understand why it’s popular with people out of high school. Just because a book is gay does not make it good. Very over-rated. I wish we had more mlm latinx romances so that this being a flop wouldn’t suck as much. :/
