I had a rough start with this one, didn’t like the writing style much and wasn’t really sold on the  protagonists. The more I read, however, I found myself more invested in the story, I grew fond of the duo and even enjoyed the little side character snippets here and there.

Overall enjoyed the story and, even knowing they die, I cried a little with the ending.

This is a 3.5 for me. I don't know if I'm heartless but I feel like I could have connected to this more, I wasn't as heartbroken as I wanted to be (lol). It's a really interesting concept but to be honest I was more interested in the Death-Cast idea and how that whole thing works than we really were able to explore...which I get because that's not the point of the book but still. I also don't really feel I got enough of a chance to care about the little side character stories as much as I should have, they mostly felt out of place to me. I liked the main characters but also didn't love the way they were written all the time (Rufus describing everything as "mad ___" was really starting to drive me up the wall) and I just feel like I could have connected to it more than I did. Sad because I really wanted to love this but it was just ok for me.
