I was really hoping that I would love this book after not vibing with Gothikana. The organized, order-loving FMC, the rule-breaking chaos-creating MMC, the secret society, gothic vibes, murder mystery and a Hades/Persephone inspired relationship? That should have been amazing. I was pretty disappointed when it ended up just being dry, the characters (except Baron who I adored) went from being interesting at the beginning to just "meh" by 40%. Salem was cold, traumatized, reluctant to open up and then suddenly shifted to this wanton sex kitten within a few interactions while Caz went from dark, creepy-vibed, artist/stalker to just being trustworthy and boring. I wanted more tension and yearning but after the first few scenes of teasing, their interactions lacked fire and angst and they just rushed into sexual scenes without the personalities we were introduced to in the beginning of the story. The atmosphere and vibes of the world were promising but the characters and story didn't quite deliver for me. I think this might be my last attempt to like RuNyx.

I was not a fan of this book. The characters are flat without much to love about them.
I won’t give it away but I was really disappointed by the reveal of the mystery. That is the only reason I kept going.

I loved this book! I loved the characters and I really enjoyed the character development from Salem. 4⭐️ only because the big reveal for the mystery was like a total of 2 pages long and didn’t have a whole lot of detail. It had a big lead up and then seemed rushed at the end. I did enjoy the book overall and I really enjoy reading books by this author.
3.8 stars
Worth reading? Sure.
Better than Gothikana? No.
While gothic romance isn’t typically my go-to trope, I do enjoy venturing into the darker corners of romantic fantasy now and then. Having enjoyed RuNyx’s Gothikana, I didn’t need much convincing to pick up Enigma. After reading some reviews, this seemed like one of those books readers either loved or really didn't.
That said, it took a while for me to get fully invested. The chemistry between Salem Salazar and Cazimir van der Waal (Caz) felt a bit slow to build, and although the mystery was present from the beginning, it didn’t immediately hook me. But once it did, the pace picked up and the story found its rhythm.
I enjoyed the author's smooth, engaging writing style, and the quotes at the beginning of each chapter added an extra layer of depth and atmosphere. Without spoiling anything, I’ll say the book delivers multiple mysteries, secret societies, and enough twists to keep me guessing until the end.
Will I re-read it? Probably not.
Was it worth the read? Absolutely. A solid dark romance with an intriguing edge.
