I was recommended this author by a friend. I'm glad I read this book which was set in the years after the Jacobite rebellion in 1745. This was a well researched book that puts you firmly in the time period in which it is set. This was my first book by this author and I'm sure I will be reading more by this author. I would recommend you pick up a copy.

Well researched story about the people left behind after the Jacobite rising of 1745 and the aftermath of Culloden. An interesting depiction of what it means to have dedicated generations to a failed cause. Interesting murder mystery but very much secondary to the setting

The beginning started off well and I was hooked. But halfway through the book was just dragging on and the entire second half was so boring to me. Needed a more heated romance and character development.

Loved this.  So well researched and made a really interesting time in history come alive. Loved the blend of fact and real historical figures (including big authors of the time) with the fictional main characters. Well-plotted and kept me engaged. Read this as a holiday read and it was perfect for that!
