Maggie Smith ruminates on the end of her marriage. When it began to fall apart, the impact it has on her children, reconciling happier times with its disintegration. She determines she cannot draw any real conclusions about the reason for its end, she knows why it didn’t work for her, but she acknowledges it is a one sided story. In the end she is coming to her own acceptance and seeing the fullness of her life. For me, her mental journey of coming to terms with the unknowable transcends her story.
