A great collection of stories that engage, even though at times they can seem a little repetitive.
The style may feel dated, but when you remember when they were first publish, and the preface explains the circumstances that motivated the set of stories, your perspective changes to admiration on the Grimm Brothers Intuition in compiling such stories.
But cautious is required as some stories are quite dark and impressionable minds may be traumatized by thinking a bit too deeply or literally about the stories.

I think I've read a few versions of this, which probably means I've read the More Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales or something.

It's nice to read the unglamoured versions of the fairytales which we grew up with. Sometimes it can get a bit repetitive and stories have similar plots.

I am a big fan of fairy tales. I like how they set you into another world and make nonsense seem almost real for just a little while. I had never been exposed to the Grimm fairy tales previously, only to the Disney remakes. After reading this book, I have come to love both even more. The Grimm's embraced the darkness of fairy tales. It quite intrigued me. My favourite part of reading this book was the illustrations. They were unusual. It took me quite a long time to finally finish reading it, about seven months, which is quite out of the ordinary for me, but you can only read fairy tales for so long until you need a little break. I do recommend this book to any fan of fairy tales, or just need a little fantasy in a mundane world. I doubt you will be disappointed.
