I latched onto Penelope and Colin because I’m a sucker for friends to lovers, but there was something so unfulfilling about their story. I’ll admit I’ve read enough FF to know most of the plot points of the book, but the FF was more satisfying than canon which is never something I like saying. I don’t know how Penelope and Colin were characterized in previous books but Colin especially was so irritating to me in the books. I hated the way he perceived Penelope in the beginning. There was definitely a fine line to walk when Quinn was trying to show that Colin didn’t view Penelope as a romantic prospect but also have her be his friend. Him being like “there are all these amazing girls and penelope is just penelope” did NOT make me ship them!! There was just better more sensitive ways to say it. I don’t know. And I thought the trajectory of their relationship didn’t fit quite right for me. I didn’t believe that it could happen the way it did. I wish it were a slower burn but I realize that this book is the only one I’ve read so I don’t know!! Maybe it would have felt more like a slow burn if I’d read the other books.
I’m not sure. There was just something off that I couldn’t make sense of which is so sad because as I was saying I love them in the show. It be what it be though.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the second epilogue, it felt like much of Eloise’s story than Colin/Penelope’s.
Moderate: Emotional abuse and Fatphobia
