Read this book to add something new to my usual rotation of romance and fantasy novels and got so much more. I was expecting horror with lots of gore but this is more of a psychological horror with moments that have you questioning the FMC’s (and your own) sanity. Dream sequences and eyeball eating moments that leave you queasy. I honestly enjoyed this more than I expected. Along with the psychological aspects, this book hits hard for every child (especially older daughters) of an immigrant family. Where your parents’ hopes and dreams are pinned on you even before you’re truly old enough to understand the responsibility of what that entails. There are moments in Ji-Won’s story that hits way too close to home because I can relate to a lot of the situations she finds herself in from a family dynamic perspective.

Definitely check the tw for this one.

I could not read fast enough. The story build and careful foreshadowing was outstanding. I was gasping and yelling through the whole book. It starts as a coming of age story, but the end you're asking what is reality or a nightmare. Twist after careful twist. Vengeful. Petty. I loved it. Ten of ten, no notes.

I enjoyed this one - not a top pick for me, but I think my main issue was the pacing. I struggled in the middle when nothing had quite happened yet. Loved the ending

This book fits into the “unhinged woman” genre. The story features the main character, a Korean-American whose father recently left their family due to an affair. The absence of the father affected all of them deeply, especially the mother. To fill in the void, the mother started dating a white man. Meanwhile, the main character struggles with starting university, the broken friendship with her high school friends and the fetishization of Asian women by the students at her university and her mother’s white boyfriend. She begins to descend into an obsession with blue eyes, as her mother’s boyfriend has blue eyes.
The main character’s hyperfixation on blue eyes went up a notch and she begins to commit murders just to obtain blue eyes for her to eat them. The ending is quite clever as the main character pinned the blame of the murders on her friend/stalker.

Love love loved this so much!! I support women’s rights and wrongs and in my opinion Ji-Won did absolutely no wrong. The men had it coming to them.
