Just as breathtaking as its predecessor :)

I enjoyed this, but not as much as the first book, The Art of Hearing Heartbeats. And I enjoyed the last third much more than the first two thirds, largely because the idea of the voice of a twinned soul speaking to you (not a spoiler, this is very early on in the novel), is not something that I can relate to or even begin to accept, which makes the initial premise a very unsteady foundation for what is to follow. But I am glad there was a continuation to the story of Julia Win and her brother and that I read it. Could there be a third book? It seems that the ending might allow for that but only the author knows!

The thing is, this is a beautiful book. Objectivly it's a really good one.

But for me, I just felt uneasy reading it a lot of the time. As with the first one, the part with Julia wasn't really needed, and in the end that part of the mystery just disapeared. I was expecting some sort of resolution to it all, instead of it just fading away.

The story of Nu Nu and Thar Thar was beautiful, if very tragic. It could have standed great on it's own.

In the end, there were to many strings and not enough of them resoved for my taste. And the tragic of it all really struck me. And still it felt like a great book, just one that mostly made me feel sad and confused.

The first book was one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. This sequel takes you back into that land for another mystical story. Julia became slightly more annoying. While I didn’t not enjoy as much as the first, I still loved the stories of the past that cross in a neat way in the end. More pieces left open though.

A lovely story that develops well. A little slow in the beginning but soon picks up. Makes one want to drop out of the rat-race, hop onto a plane and travel to Burma!

Es braucht einige Zeit, um sich in die Bücher einzufinden, aber dann lässt es einen nicht mehr los. Einige Teile des Buches fühlten sich unnötig brutal an.

I loved this book as much as [bc:The Art of Hearing Heartbeats|11331421|The Art of Hearing Heartbeats|Jan-Philipp Sendker|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1320437247s/11331421.jpg|6504537]! I was listening to an NHPR Summer Book Review podcast and the local Independent book store recommended both books. Also mentioned that this book is it's top seller! Now I know why, this book is heartbreaking and I was captivated from the beginning. Hoping that this is a trilogy!

Exquisite writing and storytelling. While the actual plot is challenging to believe, the story is deeply affecting and makes me think about what is important to me.

While an interesting read, it was not nearly as good as it's prequel and not as beautifully written. Still an interesting read, just not as special as the first.
