Everything a book should be! Perfection.

And that’s it! I give up on classics, they are definitely NOT for me.

I knew before starting Little Women that there was a good chance it wouldn’t be my cup of tea. But I liked the 2019 movie enough to be curious about the book. I guess I should have just stuck to the movie.

It’s hard to review a book published in the 19th century because, of course, the society wasn’t the same back in the day. All they care about is finding a WEALTHY husband, have children and on and on it goes. It’s no surprise Jo’s story was my favourite by how refreshing it was to read about a girl chasing her dream in a very patriarchal society.

Talking about Jo and her sisters, I still found each of them well written. Not once have I confused one with the other because of how well draw their personalities were. I wouldn’t say I enjoyed each of their stories as they grew up, but it was nice to follow them during their childhood and see the bonds of love between sisters so well written.

Now the problem with classics is how long they are! They could be 200 pages or 500 pages long, there will always be useless and uninteresting parts that could have easily been cut out. And don’t get me started on the countless life lessons rub in our face every chapter.

So no, classics are not for me, and Little Women was my cue to stop torturing myself and just stick to fantasy!

This book took me forever to finish! But it’s definitely something your reading muscle needs to be in shape for. I looooooved this book. The characters were so interesting and so human. I loved reading about their struggles in becoming people and how similar it is to what people and women still experience today. I thought the main thread of the book was community and being true to yourself, both things that I value deeply and struggle with from time to time.

The first half of this moves so slowly--took me literal years to get through, but the second half makes the slog worth it (in my humble opinion).

qué bonitas las relaciones de mujeres ay no🤧 (pero técnicamente sería 4.5 porque aunque entiendo que es parte del contexto, las enseñanzas morales/religiosas están algo cansadas)

DID NOT FINISH

Just couldn't get through it. I repeatedly became stuck on Chapter 1 and just literally couldn't move forward from it. One day I'll pick it up again and see if I can finish it because I absolutely loved the movie!
